Haven’t made a will yet?

Did you know that every year thousands of people die “in-testate” (not having made a will) - this means that after initial searches your money could go to the state.  If you do not have family or friends you want to leave your money to, then perhaps you could make a will in favour of your favourite charity/religious group/cause so that they benefit.

How do I make a will?

Making a will is not a difficult task with the help of a makeawill.me.uk solicitor (found on Solicitor Search Network).  Your solicitor will talk to you about how to proceed in making a will including the size of your estate and the value of your assets such as property owned, money saved, shares or  other investments held by you as well as the likelihood that inheritance tax would be due.  With guidance you can reduce the inheritance tax due: for example by making gifts during your lifetime – this will be discussed with you where appropriate.  In your will you make provision enabling you to plan ahead for the type of funeral service you would like.  Your solicitor will also help you identify those you might wish to nominate as executors to act on your behalf to dispose of your estate/money in accordance with your wishes.

What is important is that you make a will that is properly drawn up and witnessed.  You solicitor with expertise in will-making will complete the processes involved for a will to be legally recognised.

What if I want a will but haven’t anyone I would want to name as executor?

Sometimes it can happen that people feel they do not have anyone either capable of doing this task for them or perhaps that it could cause friction with their family.  Your solicitor will be able to offer their services in this regard and you can determine how much responsibility you wish to assign to them.  All costs involved in this arrangement will be discussed with you.

What if I make a will and then want to change it?

It may be that you have a will in existence but are no longer happy with it – perhaps your circumstances have changed, those named as beneficiaries have died or you want to make amendments to include or exclude those previously named.   You can legally change your will through your makeawill.me.uk solicitor ensuring that it legally supersedes any previous will made by you.
